Spartaci Satisfaction

Andy Whitfield has unfortunately been stricken with cancer and Spartacus has had to replace him on the hit Starz drama.

Liam McIntyre has gotten the nod to replace AW on Spartacus.  Apparently while Starz continued to shop around for other actors, Liam was asked to "bulk up" so that he looked more like a Roman gladiator.  According to the press release from Starz, Andy gave his blessing to be replaced and for Liam to do the job.

Starz, LLC, President and CEO Chris Albrecht announced today:
“Since no one can really replace Andy, we realized that we should instead find an actor who can truly lead ‘Spartacus’ forward,” Albrecht notes. “It was important to us to have Andy endorse the idea of recasting this part, which he did in the same heroic manner that he’s dealt with his whole ordeal. And that, coupled with our fortune in finding a young actor with the gladiator credentials and the acting ability of Liam, makes it easier for us to keep this hit franchise going.”
I was really hoping for a Michael C. Hall/Dexter ending for Andy.  I never met the guy but he seems quite a noble classy cat to go out like this.  Being an actor is hard work with all the rejections and when you get a plum role with really great buzz to lose out on it can be really disheartening.  I hope Andy recovers fully and he gets back on track with his career.
